Gut: Gut is a horror film that starts off as a buddy comedy, but turns into a sadistic horror film rather quickly. The film centers around a family man with his wife and daughter, and his best friend whom he works with. One night, he goes over to his friend’s house and they watch a horror film where someone cuts a girl open and places their hand inside her guts. After watching the video, the friend slowly fades into a life of delusions as the family man tries to keep his life on track and protect his family.
Gut works because of the comedy and camaraderie between the two main characters. Their acting comes off smooth and doesn’t seem forced when they laugh at one another’s jokes and humor. When the DVD is finally watched, the actors flip the switch brilliantly as we get to see the decline of the friendship and subsequent fear in the family mans eyes that his friend may be going off the deep end and might try to harm his family. Gut is an enjoyable film that pushes the boundaries between family and friendship that people should check out. It’s currently available on a variety of VOD and digital services.
